IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR BOTH STAFF AND STUDENTS

CONGRATULATIONS:  to Fred McDowell, High Tech Academy Director, and Tessil Collins, Director for Arts and Media in the Office of High School Support, for their collaborative efforts which resulted in a Massachusetts Cultural Council Grant to support arts at Madison Park.

SOUTH AFRICAN SISTER SCHOOL COMMITTEE: invites the MP Community to assist in
collecting and donating school supplies to nursery and primary schools in the Dundee area of South
Africa.   According to Judith Baker, in addition to children’s books with good pictures and appropriate
text, there is a desperate need for pencils, pens, crayons, markers, scissors, construction paper, glue sticks,
glue.  A shipment will go out in mid-October from the Winchester Transfer Station.  Please put a note in my
mailbox in the Health Academy and I will come and get the donations from you.  Thank you.  J. McRath

VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE: September 24th, for students and staff.  Please come to the
Upper Cafeteria during 1st and 2nd Lunches.  Tables will be set up outside the cafeteria for voter
registration.   Ms. Snow, Senior Civics Classes

UPPER CLASS Assemblies will be held in the Cardinal Hall.   The schedule is as follows:
CDT Academy        –   Tuesday, September 23,  Period 3
High Tech Academy        –   Thursday, September 25,   Period 3
Health Academy        –   Thursday, September 25,   Period 4

MELA-O TESTING will be conducted in the classrooms during the month of October.

OSHA-10 CLASSES will be held during Periods 2 and 3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the
month of October for CDT students in the following programs:  Carpentry, Plumbing, Electricity,  Sheetmetal, and Facilities Management.    Please see Mr. Faneuli for more information.

JOSTENS will be here on Tuesday, September 30th, in Cardinal Hall from 10:00 a.m.
to 11:00 a.m. to speak to Seniors about Caps and Gowns and School Rings.

SAT PREP CLASSES are offered at the Boston Higher Education Resource Center. Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:00-9:00 P.M.  Classes take place at the HERC at 68 Northampton St. in Boston.  Student application deadline is Friday, September 26th.  For more information stop by the College Career Center, or see your guidance counselor.

STAFF  INFORMATION

STUDENT GOVERNMENT:
Student government will be starting this term.  Please nominate students in good standing for
Executive Board or General Assembly positions by emailing clearned@boston.k12.ma.us.
Please provide the students’ name, Academy, vocation, homeroom and ID number.

CLASSROOM CHAIRS NEEDED: If you know of any outside agency or school that would like to
donate “classroom” chairs to our school, please call my office at extension 187 or 189. The chairs will

ATTENTION ALL STAFF:
Please update your Assessment Portfolios and your Substitute Folders and submit them to your Academy Directors ASAP.
Syllabi are due on Monday, October 1st, to your Academy Directors.

DATE CORRECTION:
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT     The first Professional Development for staff will be
held on Wednesday, September 24th, from 2:15 to 5:15 p.m., in Cardinal Hall.

MPTVHS CLUBS: THE DEADLINE HAS PAST.  Advisors who want to continue in their position for one of the Madison Park after school clubs, please see Ms. Marsh ASAP.

REMINDER: Please return your signed, Dated Checklist to your Academy Secretary ASAP.

DATED CHECKLIST: Please be aware some of the Superintendent Circulars have not yet been updated
and/or posted on the Internet.  Staff should check the internet regularly to watch for the circulars.
Once they are all on the Internet, you will be informed via the Daily Bulletin.

ALL STAFF: Any staff member who has any medical concerns, please see Nurse Fisher so that
she is aware of those concerns in case of an emergency.

SUNSHINE FUND: Please see Ms. Harris, Mr. Enright, Mr. Herald, Mr. C. Johnson, Ms. Flakes,
Ms. Melanson, Ms. Mullane or Ms. Weir to contribute to the MP Sunshine Fund.

ALL STAFF: The date for the retirement party for all MP BTU Staff who are retiring at the end
of this school year will be announced soon.  Friday, November 14th.

STUDENT  INFORMATION

STUDENT GOVERNMENT:
Any students interested in joining the Student Government Association can pick up an information
sheet in their Academy Office starting on Thursday, September 18th.  Applications to apply for candidacy for any position will also be available.  The deadline for applying is September 25th.  All
applications must be returned to Ms. Learned in Room 7-341 by September 25th.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: This Saturday, September 20th, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
Clear invasive plants, restore paths and pick up litter around the school.  Gloves and tools will be
provided.  Donuts and coffee will be given out.  See Mr. Goodman in Room 7-238.

SENIORS: can sign up for SAT’s on the website  collegeboard.com  today!  The deadline for the
November test is September 26th.  Drop by the College and Career Center to register.  D. Colon

Breakfast   is served daily in the Upper Cafeteria of the Humphrey Building and the First Floor
Cafeteria of the Madison Park Building from 7:15 a.m. until 7:40 a.m.  All students
are encouraged to have Breakfast.

INDEPENDENT READING BOOKS: Independent Reading books will be available in the
Main Office from Mr. McAfee’s Library.  Please speak with your English Language Arts teacher
for more information.

Music students: Grade 9, 10, and 11 go to Lunch 1; Grade 12 go to Lunch 2.
All SNAP PROGRAM STUDENTS go to Lunch 1.
All Grade 9 students attending exploratory classes:  2nd & 3rd period go to Lunch 1
(on both weeks)  and 4th & 5th period go to Lunch 2 (on both weeks)

DAILY BULLETIN: Daily Bulletin Request forms are available in the Main Office.  They must be
submitted to Sandra in the Main Office by 9:30 a.m. for publication in the next day’s bulletin.
Instructions are on the form.  Thank you.

MPTVHS PARKING: All  vehicles that are parked in the parking lot behind the school must have an MPTVHS Parking Permit .  Please see Sandra in the Main Office for a parking permit.

CARDINAL OF THE WEEK
This is a weekly feature that recognizes a student or staff member of MPTVHS for their accomplishments and/or outstanding act.  Nomination forms are available in the Main Office and in  all the Academy Offices.  This program is administered by Ms. Byrd, who reviews the submissions and selects the Cardinal of the Week.   Therefore, please submit your forms to Ms. Byrd for her review.
